The Hong Kong Chess Federation was formed in 1962 but the first championship won by Sequiera was already held in 1926. The first appearance of the national team at the Olympiad was at Havana in 1966 and their best ranking was 39th at Haifa in 1976.
In 2011 Honk Kong has 2 titled player and 28 rated players.
The last national champions were: 2002 Brian Dew, 2003 Brian Dew, 2006 Anya Corke , 2007 Tsan Hon Ki, 2008 Anya Corke, 2009 Chor Yuen Chong, 2010 Dew Brian, 2011 Arthas Qian.
