Croatian Grandmaster (1989) and European Individual Champion 2006.  Kozul was Croatian Champion in 1995 and 2006, Yugoslav Champion in 1989 and 1990 and Yugoslav Youth Champion U16 in 1981 and Yugoslav U20 Champion in 1984.
 
Won or shared first in Belgrade 1987, Sibenik 1988, Solin 1988, Liechtenstein Open 1988, Ptuj Open, Marseille 1989, Clermont Ferrand 1989, Frankfurt 1990, Osijek and Podgorica 1992, Zagreb and Osijek 1993, Linares Open and Maribor 1994, Velden 1994, Bled Open 1995, Zadar and Potoroz 1996, Solin 1998, Nova Gorica 1999, Metalis Open 2000, Bled and Pula Open 2000, HIT Open 2004, Zagred Open 2006, Graz Open 2008, Open Mediterranean 2017 in 2011.  

A participant in the 1990 Olympiad with Yugoslavia, where he collected a bronze medal for the third best result at board three and since 1994 he has lead the Croatian team. He was also a member of the Bosnia team, which won the European Club Cup three times.
