TREYBAL, Dr. Karel (02.02.1885-02.10.1941)

treybal Czech Master and judge. Czech Champion in 1921 (shared) in 1921 and second/fourth in 1907 and 1909.
A member of the national team in the Olympiads of 1930, 1933 and 1935, he was awarded a team silver medal in 1933.

Best result: Shared sixth in Carlsbad in 1923.

Treybal had been arrested on 30 May 1941 in his office at Velvary and was escorted to the Pankrac prison in Prague. He was charged with concealment of weapons for use by Germany’s enemies and for having personal possession of a pistol without authorization. He was condemned to death on 2 October 1941 and executed the same day.

His elder brother, Frantisek Treybal (1882-1947) Czech Champion in 1907, was also a prominent Czech player. Historical ELO: 2490.
