Spanish Grandmaster at 16 years and 9 months (1999). World Champion U18 in 2000, vice World Champion U10 in 1991 and World U12 in 1993. European U20 Champion in 2000. Spanish Champion in 2006 and 2009, Spanish vice champion in 1998 and 2002. Started chess at the age of 5. Best Spanish-born player since 2002.
Won or shared first in Capablanca Memorial 1999 and 2001, Open Majorca 2000 and 2001 Dos Hermanas Open 2002, Vear Open 2003, Cuernavaca Young Masters 2006, Pamplona 2007, Reggio Emilia 2010/2011, Thailand Open 2011.
In a match, he drew with Ivan Sokolov 4-4 in 2002 and beat Viktor Korchnoi 3½-2½ in Vera 2004.
A member of the national team since 2000 and a participant in the 2001 and 2004 World Championships. At the 2008 Olympiad, he was awarded an individual silver medal for the best performance at board two.
