The Federacion Boliviana de Ajedrez was created in 1939 and joined FIDE the same year.
The national team has participated in 17 Olympiads from 1939 until 2010 with the best achievement been 25th in 1939. Oswaldo Zambrana was the only Bolivian player to be awarded a silver medal for the second best performance at board 3 (7/9) in 2000.
In 2010, Bolivia had one Grandmaster, one International Master and 18 titled players, the best ranked player is Oswaldo Zambrana following by Cueto.
The last national champions were: 2003 Zambrana, 2004 Cruz, 2006 Zambrana, 2008 Campero, 2010 Ferrufino.
