The Sahovski Savez Bosnia Herzegovina was created following the break away of Yugoslavia and recognized by FIDE in 1992. The national team has participated in ten Olympiads since 1992, its best achievement was the second place in 1994. At that tournament Pedrag Nikolic was awarded a silver medal for the second best performance at board one.
The national team got a bronze medal at the 1994 Olympiads of Moscow
The national champion were: 2005 Milan Vukic, 2006 Željko Bogut, 2007 Petrag Nikolic, 2010 Bojan Kurajica.
In 2010 Bosnia Herzegovina was ranked 35th among the countries (2525) with 8 IGMs, 22 IMs and a total of 85 titled players.
