bilbao City of Spain. After a category 12 won by Anatoly Karpov in 1987, The city organized in 2000 and in 2005 the Man VS. Computer World Championship pitting great masters of the highest order against the best computer software. An undisputed victory of “silicon” over “carbon”: 8½ – 3½ in 2004, and 8 – 4 in 2005. In 2006 the picture of Veselin Topalov and Judith Polgar blindfolded playing a “blindfold” game in the Guggenheim Museum. Topalov won 3½ – 2½, but above all chess won. In 2007 Bilbao moved a step forward with the emergence of the Blindfold Chess World Cup, which was won by Chinese Bu Xiang-Zhi. In 2008 Bilbao hold the first Grand Slam Chess Final Masters won by Veselin Topalov. Levon Aronian won the second edition in 2009.
