The Fédération Algérienne des Echecs (FADE) was created in 1973 and became a member of FIDE in 1974. It has participated in the Olympiads since then. Its best achievement was the victory of the women team at the African Team Championship in 2004 and the second place of the men’s team at the same event. In 2009, Algeria was ranked 89th among the countries (2338) with 1 IGM, 10 IMs and a total of 22 titled players. Its best player is Risouk Aimen.
